Apicoectomy

Root-End Resection Surgery

Surgical Solution

When is Surgery Needed?

Generally, a root canal is all that is needed to save teeth with injured pulp from extraction. Occasionally, this non-surgical procedure will not be sufficient to heal the tooth and your endodontist will recommend surgery.

  • Hidden canals or fractures not visible on x-rays
  • Damaged root surfaces or surrounding bone
  • Persistent infection after initial treatment

The Procedure Process

A sophisticated microsurgical procedure designed to save your tooth.

01

Incision

A small incision is made in the gum tissue to expose the bone and inflamed tissue.

02

Removal

Damaged tissue is removed along with the very end of the root tip.

03

Filling

A root-end filling is placed to prevent reinfection of the root.

04

Healing

The gum is sutured. The bone naturally heals around the root over a few months.

High Success Rate

Apicoectomy procedures have a high success rate of over 90% when performed by specialists. This procedure often lasts a lifetime.
